TWO people were arrested and 45 vehicles checked in a crackdown on bogus traders and doorstep criminals yesterday.

Operation Rogue Trader was a joint exercise by police and trading standards officers.

Last night, it was hailed a success by Ruth Taylor, section leader of the Fraud and Special Investigations Unit at the trading standards service. She said: "We have actually deterred people because of our previous efforts which is why today's figures are low."

The two arrests were made in the Northallerton area and both were in relation to doorstep crime.

Two men were released on bail pending further inquiries.
