An eye-witness to the crash told The Northern Echo: "I saw someone run out in front of the bus and the driver had to swerve.
"All the children started running around screaming. It looked as if two or three were trapped under the bus.
"All I could see was blood. I tried not to look too much becasue it was too upsetting.
"Once everybody calmed down the teachers took the children into the school and the ambulance started to arrive."
