A POPULAR pensioner who works tirelessly in her home community has been honoured for her efforts.
Lucy Thompson, from Coundon, was presented with a Contributing to the Community award by Bishop Auckland MP Helen Goodman.
Mrs Thompson is vice-chairwoman of the Wear Valley Community Network, a member of the Wear Valley Local Strategic Partnership, vice-chairwoman of governors at Coundon Primary School and a director of the Coundon and Leeholme Sure Start Early Years Centre.
With Ann Symons, she has also brought together former wartime munitions workers, known as the Aycliffe Angels, by organising a tea party and dance, which was funded by a Home Front Recall Lottery grant.
She also led a group of Angels on a Remembrance Day visit to London.
She and Mrs Symons are trying to win a £2,000 National Lottery Award to organise other events for the Angels in Coundon.
