A TEENAGE netball player is celebrating after helping to win a national championship for the second time.

Jenna-Louise Astwood, 15, who is originally from Ravensworth, near Richmond, plays for Oldham, in Lancashire, who beat Birmingham Parkside 32-9 to win the title. She was also in the Oldham team that won last year's tournament.

Jenna-Louise, whose uncles, Paul, John and Brian Astwood, still live at Ravensworth, is hoping to be selected for the England under-17 squad in September.

She also plays for Lancashire county and is due to tour Australia with the Super League club in August 2009, after a successful tour of Barbados last year.

The youngster's talent was spotted by England coaches at a summer camp when she was 11.

Her mother, Sue, drives her about 400 miles a week to and from sessions and matches.

The teenager has followed in the sporting footsteps of her father, Mark, and 19-year-old brother, Matthew, who both play rugby for Southport, where the family now lives.

Jenna-Louise said: "It has been a fantastic year. Already holding the title and keeping it is just awesome. We have trained really hard and the efforts of the whole squad have paid off."
