A WOMAN from north Durham is promoting life-long learning by studying for qualifications in her 60s.

Margaret Marshall, from Pelton, near Chester-le-Street, has proved that learning does not have to end just because you have left school.

She started her career as a data administrator with training and recruitment company Zodiac Training in 2000, but it was not until three years ago that she began her qualifications quest.

Since 2004, she has completed seven qualifications through the company, including administration and customer service NVQs and adult literacy and numeracy certificates.

She has also completed a selection of Japanese motivational courses.

The latest qualification to add to Mrs Marshall's impressive list is the NVQ level three administration programme.

Mrs Marshall said: "Zodiac Training has given me an amazing opportunity and I am so happy about everything that I have managed to achieve.

"As I did not complete any exams at school, due to illness, I have never had any formal qualifications until I came to Zodiac. I feel that I have been given a second chance at an education."

Mrs Marshall completed her NVQ level two administration course in only four visits as opposed to the usual six to eight.

She has always had an interest in learning and used to attend a recreational art night course.

Keeley Bennett, administration manager at Zodiac, said: "The qualifications that Margaret has completed since she joined us at Zodiac Training have definitely been worth it."
