MORE than 200 primary school children will come together today to demonstrate their foreign language skills.
From September 2009, children as young as seven will be entitled to be taught a modern, foreign language in lessons.
However, many schools in Hartlepool are already gearing up for the change and have introduced languages such as French, German and Span-ish.
Today's event, at High Tunstall College of Science, will feature pupils from nine primary schools demonstrating their language skills during short sketches.
The schools involved are Barnard Grove, Brougham, Clavering, Eldon Grove, Fens, Golden Flatts, Grange, Greatham and St John Vianney.
Christine Robertson, the town's co-ordinator for primary modern, foreign languages, said: "Learning a language is like opening a door to another world.
"We want children to learn a language in key stage two -aged seven to 11 -because they will have fun with it and it will enable them to understand their own language better."
