A MAN who pelted police with petrol bombs during a 24-hour siege has been sectioned under the mental health act.
The 47-year-old was arrested following the stand-off with officers in Lintz Terrace, Burnopfield, County Durham.
He had barricaded himself in the loft and was talked down by trained negotiators at around 1pm on Thursday.
The man was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and criminal damage.

Durham Police this morning said he will not be prosecuted and no further action is being taken.
The man is currently being looked after in secure accommodation.
The police spokesman said: “A 47-year-old was arrested yesterday following a stand-off with police.
“After assessment it was decided he is not fit to face charges.
“He has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act and will not face criminal proceedings.”
Police were called to the house by the man at around 1pm on Wednesday but when they arrived bottles filled with accelerant were thrown at them.
An armed response unit was deployed, along with other emergency services, including the fire brigade and an ambulance crew.
The siege ended peacefully after around 24 hours.
