ORGANISERS behind a medieval spectacular at a County Durham town are making the final preparations ahead of its return this weekend.

History will come alive in all forms on Saturday as the annual Sedgefield Medieval Fair descends on the town in what is its 47th year.

Sedgefield Community Association is putting the finishing touches to the all-day event which kicks off officially at 10am and runs to 4pm.

Maxine Robinson, one of the organisers said: “It’s a fun family day out with a packed programme of activities with lots to do and see. It’s the second biggest event in the village.”

Starting proceedings will be a parade of school children from the town’s primary schools led by the Flower Queen, nine-year-old, Emily Kime, and her attendants, Emilia McGirr, Keira Quinn, both nine and Eva Young, seven.

The so-called walking tableau will begin at Sedgefield Primary School, on Rectory Row, and will then process around the town until reaching St Edmund’s Church.

On the green and in Ceddesfeld Hall and grounds there will be living history displays, historic reenactments, owls, country dancing and a tug of war.

A selection of stalls will include a tombola, crafts, books, white elephant, groceries, and plants as well as community and charity stalls.

A Punch and Judy, bucking bronco and bouncy castle will entertain while little ones can play with balloons or get their faces painted.

Mrs Robinson is still appealing for volunteers who are asked to call 01740 620042.
