A MAN is in police custody after being arrested during an ongoing incident in Bishop Auckland.

Six police vehicles, including a riot van, swarmed the town centre just after 2pm this afternoon.

Officers were seen running to the front and rear of a row of businesses on Newgate Street which have residential flats upstairs.

One man wearing a hooded top was led out of a building in handcuffs and put into the back of a police vehicle.

Police said in a statement: β€œA 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of failing to notify Northumbria Police of a change of address.

β€œHe is currently being held in custody and will be questioned later.”
