MOUNTAIN bikers will be descending on Richmond this weekend as part of a national race series.

The third round of the HSBC UK-backed British Cycling Cross Country Mountain Bike Race Series will see the country’s elite mountain bike racers battle it out on the custom-built course around Lord Zetland’s Aske Estate on May 13 and 14.

The course is tipped to be one of the most challenging on the 2017 circuit and organisers expect to see some of the most exciting racing that cross country mountain biking has to offer.

Local rider Frazer Clacherty, from Danby in North Yorkshire is the current UK under-23 champion and is one of the favourites to take the top step on the podium on Sunday afternoon, whilst current European under-23 ladies champion Evie Richards is the firm favourite to take the win in the ladies category.

Racing starts from 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon, with different categories racing through until Sunday evening. Entry to the event is free of charge for spectators.
