A SCHOOL’S afternoon fete has raised over £1,000 for a catholic charity.
St Patrick’s Catholic College in Thornaby, near Stockton, held the event on Friday, March 31 to finish off their Lenten fundraising for catholic aid agency CAFOD.
The fete was ran after the school day had finished and each form group had their own stall to run.
There were a number of activities for staff, pupils, parents and other visitors to enjoy, including a tombola, a pirate’s treasure map and name the teddy.
Alison Fisk, chaplaincy co-ordinator, praised the schoolchildren for their role in the fundraising.
“It was the students who wanted to do a spring fete and I thought to myself this isn’t going to happen,” she said.
“But the students stopped back on a warm Friday afternoon to run their own stalls and it was brilliant.
“The generosity of the parents was amazing and the event was really well supported.
“The hall was full until the very end and we raised the money in just one hour and 20 minutes,” she added.
CAFOD has been looking to raise money for communities in Zambia, after estimates show more than half of Zambians live in poverty and struggle for basic needs, according to the charity.
