TRAFFIC officers were led on a high-speed chase through Billingham on Wednesday night after clocking a car doing 55mph in a 40mph zone.
The officers, who were carrying out a speed enforcement operation in the area, attempted to stop the speeding Audi but failed to do so.
During the pursuit speeds reached up to 120mph before the two occupants of the car abandoned the vehicle in Port Clarence.
Both were apprehended and the driver has been charged with dangerous driving.
The second occupant of the car was released without charge.
