AROUND 40 people turned out to take part in their village’s annual litter-pick to tackle the “constant battle” with people not putting rubbish in the bin.
The team from Castleside, near Consett, picked up 27 bags of rubbish, a shovel, two sofa seat cushions, a tool box, carpets and a push chair.
The event on Saturday, April 8, was organised by Healeyfield Parish Council.
Councillor Johanna Forster said: “We had a great turn out of about 40 people and quite a few young children came along which was great. We all stayed for tea and cake afterwards.
“This is the third year we have organised this and the people are willing to come along and help pick up the rubbish that is a constant battle in the village.”
“It’s also great that such young children want to help keep the village tidy.
“We will be having another litter pick next year and hope more people turn up.”
The event was part of the Big Spring Clean, a campaign organised by LitterFree Durham and supported by Durham County Council and Darlington Borough Council.
