A WOMAN is trying to track down three men pictured alongside her father in a treasured family photograph.

Linked arms and smiling, the four young servicemen in Andrea Topping’s photograph epitomise the sense of relief and euphoria that spread across the country at the end of the Second World War.

Her father, Jack Miles, from Blackhall Rocks, near Peterlee, is on the far right. Mr Miles, who was originally from Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, served in the Merchant Navy and settled in County Durham after the war.

He was killed in a car crash in the United States in 1958 at the age of 35. This photograph and another which shows the men gazing into the distance became treasured family keepsakes.

Mrs Topping, from Bishop Auckland, understands the picture was taken in 1945 but does not know where or why. She would love to hear from any of the other men or their families, and has made copies of the photographs to give to them.

Anyone who can help Mrs Topping can contact Lizzie Anderson on lizzie.anderson@nne.co.uk or 01388 602232.
