ONE lane the southbound A1(M) was closed on Monday morning due to a lorry fire.

The vehicle caught fire between J62 A690 (Carrville) and J61 A177 / A688 / B6291 (Bowburn).

At 8am Durham Police wrote on Facebook: "There's an ongoing incident on the southbound carriageway of the A1M at the moment, just south of J62 (Carville) where a HGV has caught fire on the hardshoulder.

"Police and Fire & Rescue are on the scene dealing.

"Please be aware the incident (although not in a live lane) is causing significant traffic disruption on the A1M, particularly southbound.

"We ask all drivers to take care and allow plenty of time for your journey!"

All lanes have now been reopened.
