A FATHER and son have completed an unusual achievement in the karate world.
Dan Smith, 30, and eight-year-old son Oliver have managed to pass two National Karate Association grades at the same time.
Both attend karate training at Pelton Community Centre, near Chester-le-Street, which meets every Monday at 6.30pm.
Mr Smith, a software developer, and Oliver, a pupil at Roseberry Primary School, have only recently taken up karate as a hobby.
Other clubs running in the area include South Pelaw Karate Club, which has classes taking place at 4.45pm on Mondays at Holyoake Community Centre, Chester-le-Street.
Classes are also available at Bullion Community Centre, which is also in Chester-le-Street, at 5pm on Tuesdays.
