A MOTHER who got so drunk that her young son had to call her an ambulance has been sentenced.
The 35-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court after admitting one charge of causing neglect to a child.
She was sentenced to 12 weeks custody, suspended for a year.
Laura Johnson, prosecuting, said a concerned neighbour called the police after seeing the child in the street in a distressed state.
Police attended the address and found the woman “extremely drunk” on the floor next to a bed.
The defendant said in interview that she believed the child was staying at a friend’s house, although she did not know the friend’s full name.
Tom Morgan, representing the defendant, said: “She accepts that she binge drinks on a weekend when her responsibilities lessen, she believed the child was staying out.”
The mother must also complete 25 rehabilitation activity days and was ordered to pay £115 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
