A WOMAN has been sexually assaulted in Sunderland.
The incident happened in Newbold Avenue at around 2.20am in the early hours of Sunday, February 26.
"It's believed the victim and offender had walked from Newbold Avenue to the cashpoint at Thompson Road before walking back to Newbold Avenue before the assault took place," said a spokeswoman for Northumbria Police.
"Enquiries are on-going into the incident and police are appealing for witnesses."
Extra officers are on patrol to offer reassurance to local residents.
Detective Inspector Dave Cole said: "If anyone has any information that can help with our enquiries then we would ask them to come forward and speak to us."
