GARDENING fans are being asked to plant their boots at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show, which is appealing for unwanted wellies.

Organisers of the event at the Great Yorkshire Showground from April 20 to April 23 are asking for donations of old boots to be used as display planters by exhibitors.

As part of its new HortCouture theme, more than 500 stand-holders are being challenged to find the most imaginative plant display featuring a pair of wellingtons.

This year's theme will also see a series of attractions paying tribute to style trends.

Large-scale floral art displays will focus on four of the Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Versace and Vivienne Westwood fashion brands.

The show will also feature a “living” wallpaper in a Green Room made entirely from plant material, with a mossy armchair and flower-filled cushions.

Show director Nick Smith said: “There have always been strong links between fashion and horticulture, but we aim to explore those links further, blurring the lines between the home and the garden to inspire our visitors to think a bit differently about how they can use plants and flowers.

Boots can be left at the Regional Agriculture Centre on Railway Road, Harrogate during weekdays.
