A HISTORIAN is promising to uncover some of the secrets of a Roman garrison in County Durham.
Local historian and keen archaeologist Gordon Henderson will deliver a talk about Binchester Roman Fort, near Bishop Auckland, this month.
Mr Henderson has been fascinated by the Roman site since he was a boy and has dedicated much of the last 25 years investigating and promoting it.
He is set to reveal hidden truths at the talk at Barningham Village Hall, Barningham, near Barnard Castle, about the fort not yet available in books.
Robin Brooks, committee member of Barningham Village Hall, said: “We are delighted that Gordon Henderson is coming to share his knowledge of Binchester and to give us a real insight into its fascinating history.”
The discussion is part of the hall’s current series of Winter Tales.
Mr Brooks added: “This is the second season of our Winters Tales in which we have invited local speakers with in depth knowledge of their subjects to inform and entertain, with the added bonus of raising money for Village Hall funds.”
The talk will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday, January 18.
Advance tickets are priced at £5 or 6 on the door, and include light refreshments. Visitors are welcome to bring their own drinks.
