A CHEESEMAKER famous for its crumbly Wensleydale has launched a new blue cheese to add to its range.

The Wensleydale Creamer, in Hawes, describes the new cheese, Blue 16, as a 'modern-day' blue cheese, and has been developed to combine traditional flavours with a modern twist

Crafted and perfected during 2016, Blue 16 has a creamy, velvety texture with sweet caramel notes and a nutty, savoury flavour.

It will join award-winning Wensleydale Blue, a delicately flavoured creamy blue cheese.

Sandra Bell, marketing manager for the Wensleydale Creamery, said: “Blue cheese is synonymous with Christmas and during the festive season we see a huge rise in demand for our popular Wensleydale Blue, selling around double the volume versus a normal month.

"Christmas is an ideal time for customers looking to explore the varieties of blue cheese on the market and made it an ideal time for us to introduce Blue 16.”

Wensleydale Blue has picked up awards including a super gold at the World Cheese Awards 2015 and supreme champion at the British Cheese Awards 2012.

Blue 16 is available from the Wensleydale Creamery and independent retailers.
