A CYCLIST is in a critical condition after a collision which led to a car driver being arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
Police were called to a report of a serious collision at around 6.35am on Thursday morning on the A174 eastbound.
"The collision involved a male cyclist and a grey Volkswagen Golf," said a spokeswoman for Cleveland Police.
"The 50-year-old cyclist has been taken to James Cook University Hospital with serious injuries. The man is described as being in a ‘critical’ condition."
On Thursday evening Cleveland Police said: "The 40-year-old driver arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in relation to a collision involving a 50-year-old cyclist on the A174 eastbound today at 6.35am has been bailed pending further enquiries."
