POLICE are appealing for witnesses after racist comments were made to a teenage boy on a bus.

The incident happened when the 13-year-old boy was on a bus in Birtley, near Chester-le-Street.

At some point between 4pm and 4.20pm on Thursday, November 3 the boy was subject to racist abuse on the number 21 Go NorthEast bus near Durham Road, in Birtley.

Police say enquiries are ongoing into the offence and officers are releasing an image of a woman they want to identify and speak to about the incident.

She was on the bus at the time it happened and may have information that could help with enquiries.
