MORE than 3,000 visitors helped to raise £21,250 for Ripon Cathedral's plans for a £5m development project.
Ripon Cathedral's Christmas Gift and Food Fair boasted hundreds of stalls at the event at the weekend to raise cash towards the Dean's Development Plans for a 21st Century Cathedral.
Around 300 children visited Santa’s Grotto, which was created by the volunteers from the Wolseley Centre in Ripon; 550 turkey sandwiches were served; and hundreds of cups of tea and coffee were provided by cathedral volunteers. Children’s craft activities, face painting, raffle and a tombola were also attractions at the event.
Margaret Hammond, development campaign manager, said "There are so many people to thank, from the Dean and his team raised a record £1,080 selling raffle tickets and the volunteers who baked wonderful Christmas cakes, to the volunteers who helped on the day.
"Ripon businesses, soldiers from Claro Barracks, and others helped in so many different ways to make sure the event was a huge success."
