A MAN has appeared in court following the death of a motorist in a car crash over the weekend.
Ryan Gilling, 26, from Hutton Henry, Hartlepool, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
It follows a fatal collision in Shotton Colliery in which a 50-year-old man who was driving a Seat Ibiza was killed.
Two other men, aged 33 and 28, both from Shotton Colliery, who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been bailed pending further enquiries.
The Seat Ibiza car collided with a black BMW 320 on Salters Lane, Shotton Colliery, at 11.44am on Saturday.
Gilling has been remanded in custody and will next appear before Durham Crown Court on Monday, December 5.
