A CANCER charity has received £7,000 after a year of fundraising by a local support group.
The Richmondshire committee of Macmillan Cancer Support handed over a cheque and urged people to volunteer to help with future events.
Highlights of the last year included a Mad Hatter's tea party at Richmond Town Hall, when children showed off the hats they had made.
There was also a pub quiz at the King William, Brompton-on-Swale; an Alan Owen Dance Band concert at St Mary's Church and a pie, peas and pudding supper at the home of the committee's chairwoman, Rhoda Fraser.
Members also joined in the charity's national Biggest Coffee Morning in the World with an event at the King's Head Hotel, Richmond.
There were collections at Richmond market hall and town hall coffee mornings.
Mrs Fraser said: "We are a small band of people with a desire to help those affected by the diagnosis of cancer, and would warmly welcome anyone who would like to join us."
