A PEDESTRIAN was killed after being hit by a car as he attempted to cross the road at a notorious accident blackspot.
The accident happened at about 6.10pm last night, on the A68, near the junction with Burtree Lane, to the north west of Darlington.
The man, believed to be a 54-year-old from the Humberside area, was attempting to cross the road when he was hit by a car travelling west.
Police found a vehicle parked in a lay-by near to the incident, which took place close to Barrons Caravan Centre.
Police said the driver of the vehicle involved was a local man travelling home to Newton Aycliffe with his son. Both were treated for minor injuries and suffering from shock.
