REAL life emergency services “superheroes” will be out in force for a free family fun day next month.

The Celebration of Local Superheroes event will take place on Saturday, October 29, and will include police officers from Durham & Cleveland Specialist Operations Unit, stars of the Police Interceptors TV series.

The event will take place at Locomotion: the National Railway Museum at Shildon and will be hosted by Ron Hogg, the Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner for County Durham and Darlington.

He said: “I hosted a Superheroes event in October last year, and it drew crowds from across the area.

“I really look forward to seeing so many families enjoying themselves and at the same time learning about the work of the emergency services – our own local superheroes.”

Visitors can meet police dogs Jet and Ben and there will be demonstrations from County Durham and Darlington Fire & Rescue Service a chance to take part in crime scene investigation activities.

Other community safety organisations who make a difference to people’s everyday lives will also be on hand – including Blood Bikes, and there will be a children’s treasure hunt, Halloween and Superhero fancy dress competitions, and more.

The event will take place from 10am to 3pm and parking and admission to the event and museum are free.
