FOUR friends living in the same street are celebrating after a lottery win of £25,000.

The two couples, Roy and Anne Gordon and Simon and Amanda Robinson both received a £12,500 pay-out from the UK Postcode Lottery when their street, Riverslea, in Stokesley, was picked as the winning postcode.

Postcode Lottery ambassador Ingrid Hagemann paid them a surprise visit yesterday, to present them with golden envelopes containing their cheques.

Mr Gordon said he entered the lottery after speaking to a representative from the organisation who convinced him it was a good idea.

"I didn't think there was much chance of winning, but my compliments to the man who originally telephoned me to persuade me to enter," he said.

He got a call from the organisation on Tuesday to check he would be in, but the caller didn't give away what the couples had actually won.

"They played it very cool," said Mr Gordon. "They were not very excited, so I was not very excited. I was expecting a bowl of fruit or a bunch of flowers.

"I think my wife has got the money spent already. She wants a new fitted kitchen and I don't think there will be much left after that."

Mr Robinson said: "I never win anything. I thought I was going to get an alarm clock or something. This will go to pay a few bills and pay for a holiday."

His wife had been sent home sick from work, but perked up when learned of the win.

"My brother is getting married in Colombia next year," she said. "This will help get us to the wedding."

Mr and Mrs Robinson also promised a treat for daughter, Mia, who has just turned six.
