HUNDREDS of daring youngsters are celebrating a lottery windfall.
Young people with a passion for skateboarding, BMX bike riding and in-line skating will benefit from a £30,000 Big Lottery Fund grant awarded to Durham Skate and Bike Partnership.
It will allow the partnership, working with Durham City Council, to fund evening and weekend coaching sessions at each of the city's skate parks.
Lynn Readman, vice-chairwoman of the partnership, said: "We are delighted to receive this grant from the Big Lottery Fund, which will allow us to widen participation in wheeled sports and give young people the opportunity to develop their skills".
The partnership, which was set up in 2001, is looking for experienced young people who are willing to pass on to others their skills and would encourage them to come along to any session.
The funding will also be used to provide detached youth workers, who are currently in post and operating at each of parks.
