A CIVILIAN accused of taking a tank and driving it over a car appeared in court yesterday.
Jack Carroll, 22, was charged with taking a vehicle without consent after an incident at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, in October last year. He has yet to enter a plea.
The incident was captured on a mobile phone by a drunken squaddie and shows a 25-ton Warrior tank driving around Bourlon Barracks and then approaching a white Vauxhall car.
The tank knocks the wheel off the car and halts briefly before ploughing over the top of it and squashing it flat.
The soldier who filmed the incident is from the 2nd Duke of Lancaster Regiment and is from Merseyside. He can be heard through the video encouraging and shouting instructions to the driver.
The hearing at Northallerton Magistrates' Court was adjourned until July 9 to allow Mr Carroll, from Anfield, Liverpool, to consult with his solicitor.
