NEWCASTLE United and England footballer Kieron Dyer has been caught speeding for the third time in less than three years - and his fourth offence in two years.

Dyer racked up more points on his licence after his Bentley Continental was caught travelling at 38mph in a 30mph zone.

Magistrates in Bedlington, Northumberland, decided to add another three penalty points to Dyer's licence after being told a Bentley was photographed by a speed camera on the B1318 Great North Road, in Newcastle, on October 24 last year.

The road has a speed limit of 30mph and the car was photographed travelling at 38mph in a speed check at 12.30am, said Tracy Plant, prosecuting.

After police ran a check on the car, they sent a letter to Dyer, 28, of Darras Hall, Ponteland, Northumberland, asking him to confirm he was the driver at the time the car broke the speed limit.

The letter went unanswered, as did two more sent in January and March this year, Ms Plant told magistrates.

Dyer was charged with failing to supply information to the chief officer of police when asked for it. He was found guilty in his absence and fined £120 with £30 costs.

Magistrates heard that because Dyer already had eight penalty points, their decision to add another three did not make him liable to disqualification under the totting-up procedure.

If the extra points had taken him to 12 or more, the case would have been adjourned to give him the chance to say why he should not lose the licence.

In May 2003, Dyer was banned from driving for six months under the totting-up procedure after being caught speeding in Chester-le-Street.
