A DUTCH rider has set a new record for the fastest wheelie in the world.
Egbert van Popta's success came after he launched his motorbike on its back wheel at a speed of 213mph at the 11th annual Motorcycle Wheelie World Championship.
Egbert Van Popta, right, from the Netherlands, with last year's winner Garry Rothwell from Liverpool, after he became the new World Wheelie Champion at at Elvington Airfield, Yorkshire where he established a new world record at 213mph
This beat the previous record of 209mph set by Liverpool rider Gary Rothwell in 2015.
Van Popta rode a Hayabusa Turbo 1300CC at the contest at the Elvington Airfield, North Yorkshire, where he beat about 40 rivals from the UK, USA, France, Holland and Ireland.
Straightliners, the event organisers, said riders used powerful customised motorbikes for the feat.
A spokesman added that success depends on the rider's skills in controlling the speed and balance of the motorcycle, as no electronic or mechanical aids can be used.
