PUPILS are flexing their muscles in a health and fitness week.

The youngsters at Myton Primary School, in Ingleby Barwick, near Stockton, are taking part in a range of activities to get their hearts pumping and their bodies moving.

Yesterday, every child in the school had the chance to have a sponsored go on a climbing wall, an activity which was to raise money for school funds.

However, throughout the week, there is also dancing, a karate demonstration, a sponsored toddle by nursery children and a healthy family picnic on Friday, among other activities.

Headteacher Dorothy Begley said: "The week is all about the children knowing the importance of being healthy.

"We want them to achieve their highest and their best in everything they do. Today, with the climbing wall, has been a joy as everybody has had a go.

"It's drizzled and rained, but they haven't noticed.

"Families have really supported the health and fitness week, so children are being encouraged to be as healthy as they can be in everything they do."
