FIVE men have suffered serious injuries after a helicopter crash at Breighton Airport in North Yorkshire.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 6pm last night (Sunday, July 18) after reports that a helicopter had crashed on site.

The five men involved are believed to have sustained various head, back, chest and leg injuries, however they are not thought to be life-threatening.

A North Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said that all of the passengers were out of the helicopter by the time rescuers had arrived.

Two Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service helicopters were also scrambled to the scene last night.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) will now take over an investigation to discover the cause of the crash.

The airfield is a former Royal Air Force station located near to the village of Breighton, 5 miles north-west of Howden.
