PEOPLE are being offered a sneak preview of a new multi-million pound road – if they’re willing to be energetic.

Work on the Bedale bypass is ahead of schedule and is expected to be completed sometime in August.

But on June 12 Herriot Hospice Homecare is staging a 10k timed road race, along with a 5k family fun run/walk, on a section of the route.

The 10k race will start at 10.30am from Bedale Athletics Sports Association with the fun run/walk following.

Entry for the main race is £12 or £10 if people are affiliated with a running club and the fun run is £8 for adults and £5 for children.

Medals will be given to all 10K runners at the finish, whilst the fun runners will receive a t-shirt to wear for the run.

All the money raised will go to Herriot Hospice Homecare, which provides hospice-based services to people with life limiting illnesses in Richmondshire and Hambleton.

Events fundraiser Leanne Hardcastle said: “We like to organise as many varied fundraising events as we can and staging a run on a road that hasn’t even been opened yet is certainly something different.

“People who take part will be among the first to see what the bypass will be like when it opens to traffic later in the summer and the run will appeal to both serious and fun runners.”

The race is being sponsored by Dacre Son & Hartley and the fun run by JT Atkinson & Sons.
