DARLINGTON’S smartest cyclists will be out in force for an unusual race this month.
The second Buttonhole Run will see riders don period clothing and climb aboard vintage bikes on Sunday, April 17.
The event will see Victorian penny farthings, 1950s custom cruisers and early 20th century bikes take their place alongside modern machines.
Darlington’s railway heritage will be at the heart of the race, which takes in two historic stations and traces the course of the world’s first passenger steam railway.
It leaves from Bike Stop on Skinnergate for a tour around the town before finishing with refreshments at Mr Hutton’s Barbers and Bar.
Prizes will be awarded for Best Dressed and Best Bicycle.
Tickets, costing £10, include the ride, a buttonhole flower arrangement, glass of bubbly and home-made refreshments.
The ride rolls out on Sunday, April 17 at 11am, to return at around 3pm.
