POLICE are carrying out enquiries to find a missing mother-of-two from the North-East.

Margaret MacDermott disappeared from her home on Bolbec Road in Fenham in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Her blue Renault Captur was found parked on Broad Chare on Newcastle Quayside later in the day.

CCTV footage has revealed it was parked there by her at around 5am on Saturday morning.

Ms MacDermott has never been missing before and her disappearance has been described as completely out of character.

Chief Inspector Ron Charlton, of Northumbria Police, said: “Margaret's family are understandably very concerned for her welfare and we are working hard to locate her safe and well.

“We have identified CCTV footage that shows Margaret leaving her car on the Quayside at around 5am so we are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in that area at the time.

“If you were out jogging or walking your dog at the time then please try and remember if you saw a woman with a distinctive limp walking in the area.

“Our investigation will be focused on Margaret's movements in those early hours and any piece of information, no matter how small, could be vital to helping us reunite her with her family.”

She is described as around 5ft 2ins tall, of slim build and with short grey hair. She is a long term sufferer of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and so also has a very distinctive walk.

It is believed she may be wearing a dark coloured jacket, dark trousers and white trainers.

Anyone who has seen Ms MacDermott is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 782 13/02/16.
