WORK to repair a gas leak will mean two-way traffic lights on a busy commuter route next week (February 1-5).

Northern Gas Networks (NGN) engineers will begin work to repair a gas main outside the Kells Buildings on the A690 Neville’s Cross Bank, Durham City, on Monday (February 1).

They expect the work to take eight days and two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place each day from 7am to 7pm.

Motorists are advised to allow more time for their journey.

John Richardson, customer operations area manager at NGN, said: “We’d like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience caused by our essential work and reassure customers that we will do all we can to complete the work as quickly as possible.”

If you smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800-111-999. The line is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
