A GRITTER lorry overturned this evening on the eastbound slip road of the A66 slip road at Bowes, County Durham.
Fire crews from nearby Barnard Castle, Middleton-in-Teesdale and the Special Rescue Unit from Bishop Auckland attended after receiving reports at 7.26pm of people trapped.
However, on arrival everyone was released and the lorry was made safe. Police said the road was fully reopened just before midnight.
Earlier, police had warned that conditions on the trans-Pennine route were icy.
