HUNDREDS of children from families in a financial crisis have had a special delivery from Santa this Christmas.
Lifeline Community Action has already dropped off presents to more than 150 children across South Durham thanks to a successful toy appeal.
Susan Sadler, founder of the Newton Aycliffe-based charity, said: "A lot of people have had tears in their eyes. At first you get people who are really upset and then you stop off with presents and it's lovely to see the relief on their faces.
"So far we've helped 167 children in the South Durham area and we still have loads to deliver too."
Asda stores in Bishop Auckland and Peterlee are among those who have donated about 200 toys that are suitable for babies to teenagers.
To personalise the experience, Father Christmas has been roped in to make the deliveries even more special.
Toys have been given to families who are in a financial crisis as a result of anything from relationship splits to delayed benefit payments.
Having started up in 2010, Lifeline Community Action is a Christian charity that helps people of all faiths and backgrounds in times of crisis.
