A CRICKET club pavilion has been recognised for its contribution to sport and improving the local environment.

Mainsforth Sports Complex, Ferryhill, in County Durham, was commended in the Built Environment category at Durham County Council’s Environment Awards last week.

Home to Mainsforth Cricket Club, the town council-owned pavilion was opened by Paul Collingwood MBE earlier this year following a £400,000 redevelopment.

Mayor of Ferryhill, Councillor Pauline Crathorne, said: “It was a wonderful evening and it was great to see such a wide range of worthwhile projects being developed in County Durham.

“Everyone should be extremely proud of their achievements.

"Ferryhill Town Council is thrilled to be among those picking up a commendation for its project.”
