PARKING in a council’s car parks will be “free after three” in December.
Motorists will be able to park for free in all Durham County Council-run car parks and on-street parking bays in Durham City after 3pm from Tuesday, December 1, until Sunday, January 3.
It is hoped the move will support local businesses and make Christmas more affordable for shoppers.
Councillor Neil Foster, the council’s cabinet member for economic regeneration and culture, said: “The run-up to Christmas is a vital time for town centre traders and our local economy.
“By providing free parking after 3pm we hope we can help both County Durham’s residents and businesses alike.”
Parking will also be free at the council’s car parks from 10am on Saturday, December 5, as part of Small Business Saturday.
