A TRAINING organisation which is providing dozens of bricklaying apprenticeships for young people has officially opened its doors in Hartlepool.

Pro-active Training expects to take on at least 200 apprentices over the next 12 months with the guarantee of an apprenticeship after just 12 weeks if youngsters meet the necessary standards.

The company, which also specialises in health and safety training, has converted a disused factory unit as its base on the town’ Park View Industrial Estate, off Brenda Road.

Pro-active Training work in partnership with Hartlepool-based Brickwork Services Ltd, a supplier of bricklayers to construction companies throughout the North-East.

Brian Hanson, Director with Pro-active Training, said: “The majority of people who come to us are unemployed and between the age of 16 and 18. Most have never worked before.

“Our apprentices receive high quality training to achieve their NVQ level 2 and following an intense one year programme, most of them are ready for work.”

Mr Hanson said that the bricklaying apprenticeships have also attracted a number of young women.

Cllr Kevin Cranney, chair of Hartlepool Council’s Regeneration Services Policy Committee was given a tour of the facilities before cutting a ribbon to declare the building officially open.

He commented: “I am a big believer in apprenticeships and it’s great to see Hartlepool-based firms creating exciting job opportunities for local people.

“The construction industry is vital to this area and it’s important that we have people with the right skills and commitment which are key to our future prosperity.”
