ENTERPRISING young sister and brother Amelia and Oliver Pollock knew they would have to be inventive when they took part in a “selfie” competition on board a ferry.

So they asked if they could visit the bridge – and were allowed to capture themselves on camera with the ship’s captain, Giles Wade.

Amelia and Oliver, aged ten and eight, from Aldborough, near Boroughbridge, took their selfie while travelling on board the Condor Rapide from France to Jersey.

The competition was being held by Condor Ferries in aid of Channel Islands Airsearch.

The youngsters’ efforts won them a selection of gadgets worth £500.

An excited Amelia said: "We're totally shocked and amazed - we never thought we’d win. We can't wait to try out our new gadgets."

Condor Ferries spokesman Justin Amey said: “We challenged our passengers to send us their most original selfies taken onboard our ships as a fun way to also help raise funds for a very worthwhile cause.

“We had a great response, and we will now be donating £250 to Channel Islands Airsearch. It was great to see our passengers engaging with our competition, and we look forward to running further onboard initiatives in future."
