Joseph Michael Allan, 25, from Bedale, North Yorkshire, was declared dead at the scene after his Honda S2000 car left the A1(M) on Saturday, August 8 at around 8.50pm, just south of junction 60, near Sedgefield, on the southbound carriageway.

His family said: “Joe was a much loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and partner who will be greatly missed.

“Joe lived for the moment and was “living the dream” as he always quoted. He had a large circle of friends whom he loved socialising with.

“Away from work Joe loved to travel, enjoying the local music scene, culture and environment.

“Joe had a passion for gadgets and anything electronic and knew them all inside out, but his biggest passion away from the family and his partner was Joe’s love of cars. His Honda S2000 was his pride and joy.

“Joe lived his life as a happy, smiling, kind, sociable man who touched so many people’s lives; he will leave countless special memories with us all.”

Mr Allan had worked for Broadacres housing association as an electrician since October 2012.

Paul Lightfoot property services director, said: “Joe was a highly respected member of the Property Services Team and we received much positive feedback from our customers about him.

“Joe showed great potential and recently completed training as an ‘Emerging Leader’.

“All of his colleagues are deeply shocked by his tragic death and have sent their condolences to his parents and his partner, Danielle.

“Broadacres intends to name an apprenticeship scheme after Joe in his memory.  He will be greatly missed.”

Anybody who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Durham Police on 101 and ask for the roads policing unit.
