HATS will be donned, cakes eaten and tea supped as ‘Britain’s Smallest Park’ celebrates its first anniversary.
Dressed in their finery, Darlington’s mayor, guests and other visitors will descend upon the Gerald Lee Pocket Park on Wednesday, July 29.
The colourful park, remarkable for its tiny size, was transformed from a derelict patch of land beneath a billboard on Victoria Embankment a year ago.
Named after the environmentally-friendly former mayor, Councillor Gerald Lee, it was created – and is maintained by – a band of devoted local residents.
Celebrations to mark its first birthday will begin with the arrival of the mayor, Councillor Tom Nutt at 11am.
Tea, cake and speeches will be enjoyed as visitors peruse the park’s pocket-sized pleasures.
