PEOPLE over 60 are being invited to exchange their old slippers for new ones at a falls awareness event, organised by Middlesbrough Primary Care Trust and Cleveland Fire Brigade.

The event is part of the brigade's Whatever it Takes campaign and will be held at Meath Street Community Centre, Meath Street, Middlesbrough on Thursday, between 11am and 2pm.

MORE WELLY: A youth centre in Hartlepool has extended its services to six evenings a week. The Throston Project - nicknamed The Welly because it is in the former Boys Welfare Youth Centre, in Wiltshire Way - is now open on Fridays and Sundays, from 7pm to 9pm, in addition to its Monday to Thursday opening. Activities include drama, arts and crafts, trips, music sessions, a young people's committee and sports, such as table tennis, pool, netball, football and badminton.

The joining fee is £1, after which sessions cost 30p.

SAYS WHO: A children's drama group from Stockton will screen its presentation and supporting show of Gintha and the Enchantress, at Cineworld, Middlesbrough, on Monday. The Says Who group is made up of youngsters from Newtown and Primrose Hill and attend schools in the area. The youngsters' presentation is from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, to be followed by refreshments.

MUSICAL FUNDRAISER: A fundraising night of music with The Classix will be held at Guisborough football club at 7.30pm tomorrow. Proceeds will go to the South Cleveland Heart Fund of The James Cook University Hospital. Tickets cost £5 and are available from Greensleeves Music, in Guisborough, or the hospital, on 01642-854621.
