A CHARITY worker has cycled ‘coast to castle’ for his employer and cause.

Andrew Leadbitter, house manager at The Sick Children’s Trust’s Scott House in Newcastle, pedalled the 170 miles from Gateshead to Edinburgh over three days in aid of the charity.

He was part of a 25-strong team for the Coast to Castle challenge.

The squad has so far raised £1,400 for the charity’s “home from home” accommodation at the Freeman Hospital.

Mr Leadbitter, from Chester-le-Street, County Durham, said: “There are lots of sore bums and sore legs but we did it and couldn’t be prouder.

“The ride was incredible and there was so much morale among the team, so that even if you were struggling the lads would pick you up.

“We are half-way to achieving our ambitious target of £3,000 but we’re confident that we will get there. It was one of the toughest cycling challenges we have done to date but by far the most rewarding.

“Knowing that the money we’ve raised could provide a room for a family in Scott House for a year kept us going and kept the smiles on our faces.”
