A TOWN twinning friendship club has welcomed a dozen German visitors as part of its 30th anniversary.
The visitors from Werdohl were treated to a civic reception in Derwentside's civic centre, in Consett, on Friday night.
Earlier in the day, they had an open-topped bus tour of Newcastle, after arriving by ferry.
On Saturday, they visited Woodhorn Colliery, followed by a pie and peas supper and bowls night at Stanley Bowls Centre.
Club chairwoman Mary Platten said: "It has gone swimmingly, helped along by the weather, which has been beautiful. The visitors are having a fantastic time. They have played bowls, had a pie and peas supper and played bingo - all for the first time. It was quite a novelty for them."
Yesterday, the visitors went for excursions with their host families.
Today, they will be taken to visit the Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle, and tomorrow will go to the Killhope Lead Mine, to be followed by a farewell dinner at the Blue Bell, at Kip Hill, Stanley.
The visit comes as the Derwentside Werdhol Friendship Club celebrates its 30th anniversary.
